Hello all - sorry I haven't been posting as much as I'd like over the past 2 weeks. Been busy doing lots business of stuff, that, alas does not include art. It was really important stuff thou, taxes, accounting, moving boxes, making sure Baron keeps focus on his drawing desk, and toss a couple of doctor appointments in the middle of all that.

However, I just landed a job doing illustration work for the next month that is going to eat all my waking time. Can't really talk about it beyond that due to NDA's. I'm really excited for this opportunity so I'm grabbing with both hands. I might not feel the same near the end of it, but hey, that's future Smudge's problem. ^.~

Needless to say, commissions are now closed. If you have an outstanding commission, fear not, my new, hectic schedule takes your work into account.

So until the new project's done, I leave you with an elephant. She's large, in your room, and will not be ignored. Actually, she's my character I'm going to be running in a friend's D & D campaign, which, now that I'm thinking about I might not be able to make the first few sessions. Doh!

Fox Den is going to be publishing the GN of to Kill a Dragon this fall so I sat down and whipped up a new cover for the collected version. Did it as a watercolor since my computer was down for 1/2 the week. Hoping to premier it at APE 2015 this year.

Here's the final version. ^.^

So we've gone and done it.

Both Baron and I have created Patreon accounts. Baron will be funding his dreamscapes sketch blog, including his current Pony Dreamscape that he's been running on DeviantArt and Furaffinity, While I will be using it to help offset the development costs of my new project, "Magical Homeowners Association". Like all things of this nature, it will start slowly and built up over time. You can check both pages at out:

Thanks so much for looking!

So now that 'To Kill a Dragon' is in the can, I now contemplate what my next project will be. Only problem is, now that I'm not consumed in a project, ALL my other ones are scrambling for attentions... at the same time. Including a new one, something I told my self I wasn't going to do. Thanks, brain.

Right now, I'm trying to sit down and organize the different stories: outlining basic arcs, getting characters ironed out so I know the different casts I'm dealing with, and trying to take a long look at the media each of the stories wants to exist in. As such - my art production is mostly going to be super rough pencil sketches and semi-random doodles that probably will only make since to me for a while.

In the meantime - here's what I've been poking at for a bit; Character designs for the new story I told myself I wasn't going to do. Tentatively titles "A Song for the Earth and Rain", it's a Romeo and Juliette styled love story set in a fantasy Far-East.

Gau-studyThis is Gau (Farwalker), an Elf and main character. He's a long traveled merchant who ends up in the orient ala Marco Polo. Since doing this, he has told me that he's also dances Ballet, but thinks he's no good at it and keeps it more as a hobby.

Do note, his "not that good at it" is kind of like someone who just missed the cut at the Royal Ballet saying they are "not that good". We all wish we were "not that good." ~.~

Design is totally NOT final. Not sold yet on the Tutor fashion, but I really like the concept of the cod piece as part of his native dress.

Rest below cut due to slightly NSFW artistic nudity.

To Kill a Dragon cover 4

To Kill a Dragon cover 4

Nadine is on a MISSION! And poor Betsy is being treated like a motorcycle.

I'm really pleased on how this cover came out as a whole. Issue 4 is nearly in the can and I hope to have it uploaded to various websites by Friday. I'll also be posting on SMEW mostly to test out the new drip-feed plugin that I wrote. Posting to ComiXology is coming along. They should have issue two available anytime now and I just got the notice that issue three will be available soon as well. I've also entered talks with iVerse about adding it to Comics Plus and their Library Service program. Hopefully good things will come of that but nothing official as of yet.

Hope you all enjoy!

Sorry things have been quite here lately. Mostly it’s due to having our noses to the grindstone.

Baron’s been working hard getting commissions done while getting work together for FC next year. Will post new stuff on that, hopefully, Monday.

As for me, Smudge, Fox Den and I have got ‘the Keeper’s Warrior’ edits in the can and hope to have the proof copy from the printer any day now. ePub version will also be released at the same time so you have your choice of digital or dead trees. Oh, and I was able to include all the art in the digital version too. It was a pain, but I think it will be well worth it in the long run.

To ‘Kill a Dragon’ is still chugging along. I’m in talks with MadeFire, a comic app, to have it posted there.

And last but not least, I’m participating in NaNoWriMo this year. Mostly to try and kick me outta my mental block when it comes to writing. This past few years have not been good to me stress wise and it means that my writing creative juices are not only not flowing, but acting like molasses… in Montana … during winter. And before you ask, ‘To Kill a Dragon’, story-wise, has been sitting on my desk complete for nearly ten years. But with luck, and a little nudge, now that the worst of the stress is off me, I can get things not only going again, but completed.

I’ve decided this year, I’m going to get Dis’ tale done. Right now, it’s under the working title of ‘the Inn of the Cat’, but I am hoping to find something better. After all, the current title, while descriptive, is pretty dang common. Wish me luck!

the Inn of the Cat

DisLoungingAround

Dis was a wanderer, but not by choice. All he wants is a place to call home. And he finally thought he’d found it, in a small inn run by Edio within the bustling trade city of Daleport. Yet, politics, the coming of a new lordship for the city and fear are threaten to, yet again, force him to flee. After all, it’s hard to be a magical being in a city that faces any magic with torches and pitch-forks.

Hand Of The Dragon

Hand Of The Dragon

Getting close to releasing issue #3 of ‘To Kill a Dragon’. Here’s the cover image to prove it. ^.^

Sorry I’ve been so quite as of late. Usually when I drop off it’s because I’m either dealing with RL drama, or have my nose to the grindstone. This time, happily, it’s been the latter, not the former. Not only have I been working on getting ‘To Kill a Dragon’ out the door, but I’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes here setting up a new eStore and programing needed plugins.

The program work is nearly done. As soon as it is, I’ll be posting ‘To Kill a Dragon’ at SmudgeMarks & EngelWerks as well as a test of our new subscription model for comics, stories, and podcasts.

I’ve also been keeping busy domestic side as well. Been on a slow rampage of house cleaning/organization/getting-rid-of-crap since the emergence room visit a month ago. A lot of this is my vain attempt to get the house a little less allergen friendly. My long standing dream at this point is to get it in shape enough for Roombas to be able work. Yeah, probably never happening, but I can give it the collage “GO”.

Back to the grindstone for me – Issue three won’t letter itself.

Because I am dorky and like playing with new tools, I posted the first issue of ‘To Kill a Dragon’ over onto DeviantART. Come check it out if you haven’t given this a read already. ^.^

While Baron busies himself with commissions, I’ve been working hard on getting the next issue of “To Kill a Dragon” ready for posting on Crunchyroll. I have all the pages colored, and lettered. Now it’s just proofing my lettering and get the cover/chapter illustration done. I really hope everyone’s been enjoying the series so far.

To wet your appetite, here’s a couple of the colored, lettered pages. ^.^

The Keeper's Warrior CoverThe Keeper’s Warrior Cover

Keeper and Warrior discuss the practicalities of a wooden amulet they have made. It maybe small, but where Warrior is going, it might mean the difference between wining and loosing.

Woot – and now the cover’s done for “the Keeper’s Warrior”. Just need to do a last bit of proofing, and get the cover and interior layout finalized and off to the presses it goes.

To Kill a Dragon

Well, after some technical hiccups, I’m happy to announce that To Kill a Dragon is live up on Crunchyroll’s Artist Alley.

Second issue should be available in two months, if all goes well.

I just put the finishing touches on illo #8 of 9. Woot! One more to go, then the cover. After that a final proofing and off to the printer it goes. So close… so close….

Still looking for ideas for grass roots marketing/advertizing for the book. If you have any ideas, drop them in the comments. ^.^

The Keeper's Warrior - Illo 6

The Keeper’s Warrior – Illo 6

Warrior sits and talks with the Wavespeaker, Head Priestess of the temple of Tempest. And yes, she really is that tiny. Doesn’t help he isn’t exactly small.

This is the last illo that I’ll be LiveStreaming. Mostly because I feel the last three pics will be spoilers, and that just ain’t cool. ^.^

I still have no idea what to do for a cover. Don’t know if I’ll be able to stream that or not since I’m unsure on wither to do it with my traditional watercolors or digitally. While I can stream my desktop just fine, I don’t currently have the equipment (ie. web-cam) to do so for more traditional work. I figure I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Oh ~ and here’s something for discussion: I am looking for ideas for getto advertizing for this novella. If you got any ideas – post them here! Thank!
