I'm not sure I get what you mean by 3D figures against a 2D background; it all looks to be rendered in 3D? I thought at first that you meant the figures were done in CGI while the backgrounds were painted, but that's clearly not the case. The buildings and scenery are all painted with light and shadow and there's 3D perspective... what am I missing? What's the big difference here?
