You know, I use to find this easy. But as the technology has advanced it has acutally become more and more obtruse to the point of unworkable.

Case in point. Maya LT on Steam did another major update, breaking my model as I was just getting it finalized. Because it's subscription, I have noway to tell it not to update, and no way to revert. At least Adobe got that right with thier cloud model.

I've cleaned up the corrupted data as best as I could, and exported it out to Unreal only to find that the FBX exporter is dropping REALLY IMPORTANT sections of my model.

Yeah - I think I'm gonna take some time off and open my commission docket this week. I ment to do it last week, but I was so close to getting to stick a fork in this thing that I just plowwed though instead. But this... I don't know if I can recover from this.

So, I'm having a nasty round of medical hit money wise. Nothing life threatening but stuff that adds up quickly. New glassess after my old ones broke at a really inconvenit time, me hurting my back over the weekend, and dental coming up fast after loosing peices of fillings on two teeth, means lots of outta poket.

To help offest costs, I'm opening up 4 commission slots to start with.

$40.00 gets you a single character sketch either Traditional or Digital,
$60.00 for inks Traditional or Digital,
$100.00 color Digital Only,
$150.00+ for Traditional Watercolor.

All work will be 8 1/2" x 11" in size. PG 13 max subject matter. I reserve the rights to refuse any subject for any reason.

Drop me a note on FA or DA or use this contact form here, and we'll see what we can do.

This is exactly why I stopped upgrading at Maya 2012, and Max 2014. I did not want to ever have to deal with subscriptions or cloud licensing. I think the only program that doesn't have that these days is Cinema4D, and Blender.

This is also why I am always looking for alternates to Photoshop now past CS5, such as clip Studio,SAI, and others.

Having to often switch between different Maya versions, I tend to keep versions of my files as OBJ or FBX files so i can pass them along. Even now i tend to mostly work in maya 201o, as it was the last version purchased for me by an employer, so it's stable and works.

I could say, when in doubt pirate it, and apply for work using only Renders, like most other people down here, but well YMMV.

I highly recommend for actual art creation Clip Studio Pro (Aka Manga Studio). Their animation tools for simple straight up traditional, hand drawn animation are pretty good too.

As for Adobe's subscription, they did something very smart that I really wish Maya had done. They have implemented versions, so if they do an update that doesn't work with your older files, you can download/maintain a separate version of the older program for compatibility. They best version of versions I have seen is really Unreal Engine's, but to least Adobe is trying. Unlike AutoDesk.

AutoDesk has been breaking things left and right recently with updates, and I'm not just talking Maya. I've seen Baron fight with their sketchbook on the iPad Pro when it suddenly wouldn't recognize his Pencil. Makes me wonder what they have been upto and how long thier are going to be around if they are breaking things that have been in the systems forever and not finding the breaks until after they have gone out.

My issue appears to lie with having removed then reattached skins to a skeleton. The FBX Exporter did not like that one bit. Still have no idea how to fix that. At least they fixed the compatibility with PhysX/APEX plugin with this version.

I do not like people pirating from me, so I won't pirate from others. Nor will I ever endorse it. It's as simple as that.
